Baptism.

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.

Baptism for infants occur on a regular basis. Pre-registration and parish preparation is required.

For first time parents, a rehearsal – information meeting is required so that they will know what is expected of them.

Godparents (also known as Sponsors) together with the parents present the infant for Baptism and are to help the child live and learn the Catholic Faith as they grow to become adults.

One Godparent, male or female is sufficient. However, two Godparents is traditional, one of each sex (not two Godmothers or two Godfathers).

Godparents are to be no less than 16 years of age, Confirmed Catholics, and live a lifestyle which befits the role that they are undertaking.

Godparents are not to be the parents of the infant.

A Baptized Non-Catholic Christian may be a Godparent only in company with a Catholic Godparent of the opposite sex. They are known as a Christian Witness.

Non-Baptized people are not to be Godparents as they can not fulfill their responsibility of assisting parents in teaching and role modeling the Catholic Faith.

Once the Sacrament of Baptism has taken place, the godparent can never be changed. Choose wisely!

Parents who do not live within the parish boundaries and are not attending church at Christ the King need to have a letter of permission from their proper parish for us to Baptize your child.  This is not difficult to get.  Just call the closest Catholic Church to where you live and the secretary will prepare the necessary letter.

Please contact the office at (705) 674-6447 or (christtheking@diocesessm.org) for further questions or information.

Christ the King is the largest and oldest Church in the Sudbury region, serving English-speaking Catholic families since 1917.
